A Beautiful Afternoon at Stone Tree Farm & Cidery

Stone Tree is a locally-owned winery in Unity, Maine with an outdoor event space and a friendly atmosphere.

About Stone Tree - A small batch Winery and Cidery with a focus on quality over quantity stonetreewinery.com

Tonight, Stone Tree celebrated "Open Winery Day," where they had live music, excellent food, dessert, and, of course, their famous wine slushies!

We'll get to all of it in this, The Vacationlander's inaugural post!

Atmosphere

Stone Tree is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy time with friends and family. It helps that, if you're a local, you'll run into familiar faces who will be happy to see you!

Stone Tree's facility is hosted on the property of the owners, Brian and Frank, who live in the residence above their wine and cider bar.

Their back yard features a large tent and various activities for customers of all ages. They have a My Size Connect Four, an enormous chess set, multiple cornhole setups, and more!

You don't have to be 21 to attend, either. In fact, Frank and Brian encourage parents to bring their kids and enjoy the beautiful views!

Live Music

Stone Tree isn't just a beautiful space to take in the sights. They also have live music on occasion. Tonight we heard the band Northern Xposure!.

They played some Sublime-style covers of famous songs. I seem to recall "Comfortably Numb," "Runnin' Down a Dream," "Say It Ain't So," and some Dishwalla in their for good measure. All with some heavy PHISH vibes.

Yes, I was wondering all night if their name is a reference to the 90's TV show Northern Exposure. No, I don't have an answer.<br>

They were pretty good, all things considered. The musicians were all capable and they impressed me with their performances.

Food

We got there kinda late. It was about 5:30 (the Facebook event says it started at 12). They had three food trucks today. The BBQ place was pretty much sold out, so we went to the Graze 207 truck.

Emily and I got the same sandwich; a Turkey Tomato Basil panini. It came with a pickle and a bag of kettle-cooked chips.

It was incredible! According to their website it has:

Turkey Tomato Basil

  • Turkey
    • Marinated Tomato
      • Lettuce
        • White Cheddar
          • Fresh Basil Sauce

They source their ingredients from local vendors, which I appreciate. And everything had a fresh taste that you just can't fake.

After we finished our sandwiches, Emily got a Piña Colada Slushy!

            It just *looks* delicious.

You can also get wine slushy flights as well as various ciders and other wines. While I no longer drink, their offerings are quite compelling!

Then, we finished out the evening with some ice cream from Nate & Ollies Rolled Ice Cream. Now, I'd never heard of rolled ice cream, but when I saw what the people ahead of me were getting, I was excited!

I wish I had gotten video of this, but they essentially take (heavy?) cream and pour it out over whatever ingredient the recipe calls for. (For instance, my recipe called for brownies). They then chop, mix, and massage the cream and ingredients on an "antiskillet." That was their word for the cold plate they prepared their sweet treats on.

After a few minutes, they thinly spread the mixture out over the antiskillet and give it a moment to solidify. Then they roll up sections of the ice cream and stuff it in a bowl.

It was fascinating to watch and the ice cream was delicious. For your money, what you get is generous. However, they only have one size and, in retrospect, both Emily and I could have opted for smaller portions! Not complaining, we were just rather full from our dinner!

UPDATE: After we shared this post on our Facebook, the official Nate & Ollie page left the following comment:

Thank you for coming to see us! We are glad you enjoyed your ice cream. We don't have it posted but do make half orders upon request. Our full order can be alot for some people. We are in our second season and we will have some changes coming in our 3rd. Thank you again for coming to see us.

            Pricing and Review

Truth be told, we've been to Stone Tree many times. it's an excellent place to visit and full of wonderful people. Today was no different. Though they were notably busier than usual.

Not in a bad way. There was ample parking and seating available.

And service wasn't slow. In fact, they had more people on staff tonight than I have ever seen, too!

Truly, a tribute to the professionalism and the kind of operation they're running there!

Tonight there was $5 cover charge per person. With our meals totaling $35, ice cream being $16, plus Emily's slushy we spent over $65 tonight between the two of us.

For an evening out supporting locally-owned businesses? I'd say it was a steal. We'll definitely be going back to Stone Tree Farm & Cidery, soon.
